Other Winter Hockey

Other Winter Hockey

Other Winter Hockey sports include versions of Ice and Inline Hockey played with a ball rather than a puck (Bandy and Roller Hockey) and in the case of Roller Hockey quad skates rather than inline skates. Ball Hockey and Floorball are two variants of Unihoc played with a ball rather than a puck, while Ringette, invented in Canada, is primarily a women’s game played on Ice, with no contact, and a ring rather than a puck or ball, with a straight stick with a hook on it to propel the ring instead of a curved hockey stick.

Bandy

Bandy is one of Russia’s National Sports, where it is known as Hockey with a Ball as opposed to Hockey with a Puck (Ice Hockey). It is played on Ice with a ball rather than a puck.

Ball Hockey is very similar to Innebandy and Floorball, with the three sports played on a hard surface such as a community centre hall or inline/roller rink and a ball an runners rather than skates. Innebandy is the Russian version, Floorball the European version, and Ball Hockey the North American version of the sport where some of the normal rules of Ice Hockey are allowed such as bodily contact.

Ringette is yet another variation on Ice Hockey, being invented so women and young children who do not wish physical contact can enjoy the sport. It is played with a straight stick rather than curved stick which is used to hook a ring rather than a puck or ball. As mentioned earlier there is no physical contact allowed between players.
