All-Ireland Soccer Cups

All-Ireland Soccer Cups have been played on an on-off basis since 1941-42 when the Dublin & Belfast Intercity Cup was first played. The North-South Cup lasted two seasons from 1961-1963 and then sponsors names appeared on the Blaxnit Cup (1967 to 1974), Texaco Cup (1973 to 1975), and Tyler Cup 1978 to 1980. The Irish News sponsored the North West Cup from 1995 to 1998, featuring teams from Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland parts of Ulster. The latest and perhaps greatest All-Ireland Cup was the Setanta Cup, which ran from 2005 to 2009 and then after a years break from 2011 to 2014.

League of Ireland Premier Division

The Football Association of Ireland (Republic of Ireland Soccer) broke away from the Irish Football Association (Northern Ireland Soccer) after the 26 Counties gained independence in 1922. The FAI organises the League of Ireland (Premier Division, First Division and Underage Divisions) as well as at one stage the League of Ireland B Division.

The Schoolboys Football Association of Ireland organises Schoolboys Football in the Republic of Ireland, one of the Highlights of which is the Kennedy Cup – organised every year on the lines of the FIFA World Cup, but with teams representing the 32 County & District Football Associations in the Republic of Ireland.

Preseason tournaments held in USA include the International Champions Cup featuring top European and South American teams which has been held over the past few years; the United Soccer Association, a preseason league where European and South American teams (including Shamrock Rovers and Glenavon) played as American-based teams over the summer of 1967; and the International Soccer League from 1960 to 1965, an extended preseason tournament, again featuring top European and South American teams.

Ireland U20 & Youths National Team

The Ireland Youths National Team qualified for the Finals of the 6th FIFA World Youth Cup in 1991, the first Major FIFA Tournament an Ireland National Team qualified for.

Ireland Amateur & Regions Cup National Team

The UEFA Amateur Cup was introduced by the Organization governing European Football in order to give Amateur National Teams in Western Europe a chance at a Championship, as the Communist Bloc countries were using what were for all intents and purposes full professionals in the Olympic Tournaments.

The UEFA Amateur Cup became the UEFA Regions Cup after the fall of the USSR and the subsequent creation of the European Union as a political as well as economic entity.

Leinster Senior Football League

The Leinster Senior Football League (Dublin and Eastern Province, Ireland) has been going strong since 1896.

Leinster Junior League / Leinster Senior League (Junior)

The Leinster Junior League covered the Junior Level Adult Soccer in Leinster (Eastern Province) in the 1970s. More recently it has been part of the Leinster Senior Football League set-up (Junior Level Leagues form a section below the Intermediate Level Leagues)

The Kildare & District Football League is an Adult Men’s and Women’s Junior Level (Counties & Districts) Soccer League in Ireland. The KDFL was founded in 1994.

Wicklow & District Football League

The Wicklow & District Football League is a Junior Level (Level 3) Adult Soccer League in the Republic of Ireland. Within the WDFL there are currently three Divisions: Premier Division, Division 1 and Division 3.

The Munster Senior League is an Intermediate Level Provincial Soccer League in the Republic of Ireland.

Tipperary Southern & District Football League

The Tipperary Southern & District Soccer League is one of 32 County & District Junior Adult Soccer Leagues in the Republic of Ireland, and one of 10 in Munster. It covers roughly the area of Tipperary South Riding.

Ulster (ROI) Soccer

The Ulster Senior League was the highest level of Soccer in the Republic of Ireland part of Ulster. Comprising the three counties of Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan, it was an Intermediate Level Adult Soccer League. Below the USL are Junior Level Adult Soccer Leagues the Donegal Junior League, Monaghan-Cavan League and Inishowen Junior League (Inishowen Peninsula, Donegal).
